Microneedling also know as Skin Needling, Collagen Induction Therapy, (CTI) and Derma Pen is a powerful skin remodeling technique. The microneedling pen creates micro-pricks into the epidermis or top layer of the skin. This creates a superficial “injury”. This perceived “injury” is enough to stimulate the body’s wound healing response. The healing response in turn stimulates the skin to regenerate collagen and elastin, resulting in thicker skin, younger looking skin.
what to expect during microneedling
First, an anesthetic cream is applied for 20 minutes. Next a layer of hydrating serum is applied to lubricate the skin and make the derma-pen glide more smoothly. The area is treated in circular movement horizontally and then vertically. The entire face is treated including the jowls and under jaw area. The treatment duration is generally 1 hour.
The skin will be red for a few days post-treatment. It may feel like you have sunburn, this is a normal reaction. A new layer of skin is produced and the old skin begins peeling off. The peeling will be minimal, similar to mild sunburn. This will subside within a few days, leaving you with a youthful glow and feel.
How many treatments are recommended?
Microneedling can be safely repeated every 4 to 6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction we recommend to start with 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. For scar reduction and average o 3 to 6 treatments are recommended.
